Responsible Newspaper Publishing

Today's  The Telegraph, Kolkata edition, carries this article,

Enough is enough, girls declare war on eve-tease menace in New Alipore Feel unsafe on the streets near your house, your campus, your workplace? Do not suffer in silence. Speak out, stand up, make a difference....  | Read..

What responsible reporting you would think. After reading the  newspaper you turn to the "ENTERTAINMENT"  section hoping to get entertained. BUT what do you see?

BIKINI BODS
1. BROOKLYN DECKER Vital stats 32C-24-34 Claim to fame Swimsuit model. .........featuring 10 females in almost nude form which is clear porn.

Is this not a form of eveteasing? A newspaper which is read by the entire family, and in India we have the father-in-law and brothers-in-law living under the same roof, this is a form of eveteasing for the female members. This is gross violation of a woman's privacy. Such porn stuff should be left to a persons choice to view , not be thrust upon by putting it up in Newspapers.

Readers, do you agree?  I would hope to have your reaction and views to help me put up a letter to the editor.

  1. Eve teasing - it's a worst one. Still i remember that girl in chennai named Sarika..by fear she slipped on a big "stone" (as some 4-5 boys teased her) got head injury and died. It rocked chennai and whole TN that time. Thing is still humanity lives in our chennai city, if anything happens some nearby shoppers or some passerbys are coming for help but if the boys are real rowdies or any political related they will not come.

It's better that shools and paretns should teach them how to tackle these kind of situations.

  2. My point was such irresponsible publishing of porn stuff puts ideas into the heads of anti female males and it is dangerous when they are the rowdy ruffian types.

  3. MAM,

Totally agree. I came back from US hoping that my kids could experience a better culture back in India.

In some sense Bangalore is worse than US. In US there are very strict anti-drug and drunken driving laws. I see teenagers getting into drikning/smoking/drugs primarily because of that "sense of security from Parent's wealth" and parents not spending enough time with kids to educate them of what is right or wrong.

Smoking/Drugs/Porn/Teeange Sex have all been exported to India from West and teenagers are likely to get into them very easily as they all make them look "Cool". While studying and focusing on career is considered "Nerdy" these days.

And only a regulatory body should recognize this, make laws and more importantly enforce such laws.

And I have to blame "TIMES Of INDIA" which started off this culture of posting semi-nude pics of celebrities on its last page first and now has a supplement 4 pages of such junk.

And you know what my 2.8 year old daughter likes to watch "Munni Badnam Hui Darling tere liye" from Dabaang. I don't know if I have to be worried!

  4. Girish, at least "munni badnaam hui" can be switched off and to a certain extent the choice to view it or not is in our hands , but the newspapers putting up such stuff makes it difficult to censor it
